Chittering Downs Dexter Stud is owned by Elizabeth Day and Albert Tan, with the help of Danielle Berkhout. Chittering Downs Dexter Stud was established in 1996 when Albert Tan purchased a Grade 2 Dexter cow (in calf) at the first Dexter Auction in Gidgiegannup. In the early days there were very few purebred Dexters and they were very expensive. Hence most of the early studs started with a "breeding up" programme from foundation cows of other breeds (mainly Angus ad Murray Grey). Achieving purebred status was a slow process and the early shows had a predominance of "Grade" animals. Since 2010, Albert Tan and Elizabeth Day established Chittering Downs as an exclusively purebred Dexter Stud. Participation at the Dexter Breed Shows and Perth Royal Shows from 2011 have resulted in several winners in various classes for heifers, cows and bulls. Future direction includes diversifying the stud with the introduction of new genetics by artificial insemination from overseas sires.Albert and Elizabeth have been active as committee members of DGWA, and remain committed to the breeding and promotion of Dexter cattle.
